RESTORATION

A series of 45 pieces of hand painted furniture from ASTRA Museum`s collections are included in the restoration program as part of the project.

The overall collection contains an important number of dowry chests, mainly manufactured in Transylvania, between the 18th - 20th centuries. After a thorough selection of the most valuable pieces, 45 of the most endangered ones were included in the restoration program due to be finalized in an exhibition in the lobby of the new Centre for Heritage, upon its opening.

Given the value and conservation state of these pieces, the restoration works will be conducted in the museum`s laboratories under direct supervision of experts in polychrome wood restoration.

Out of the 45 pieces, the restoration of 10 dowry chests was completed by the end of 2009.
